L1: Sit Right

Your original lumbar support only knows two moves: out and back.

Why does a long drive become so tiring?

It starts with the first layer of the problem: lumbar support.

In many vehicles, the lumbar support has only two basic movements: it pushes out, or it retracts. That is it.

But the human lumbar spine is a curve. Everyone needs support at a different point and with a different level of pressure. One fixed "push-out" position simply cannot fit every body.

One GLS owner in North America described it well on a forum:

It is like trying to find the perfect office chair. Every body is different, and finding the one that fits you exactly is extremely difficult.

After the multi-contour dynamic support and massage system is installed, your lumbar support becomes far more precise.

Open the same Seat / Seat Comfort main menu, and two additional controls appear: lumbar support and side support.

121 precise adjustment points

Lumbar support: Think of it as a coordinate map. The vertical axis controls lumbar height, and the horizontal axis controls support strength. Each axis has 11 levels, from 0 to 10, creating 121 precise adjustment points in total. You can locate the exact support point your body needs.

Side support: The left and right sides adjust independently, also with 11 levels each. Driver and passenger seats can be tuned separately, so each person can find the exact wraparound feel that fits them.

L2: Stay Comfortable on Long Drives

Even the right posture is not enough if you sit still for too long.

Lumbar support helps you sit correctly, but after hours on the road, fatigue still builds up.

The reason is simple: even if your posture is accurate, your spine and supporting muscle groups remain under pressure in the same areas for too long. When that pressure cannot be released, fatigue follows.

The second layer of the solution is massage. By keeping the seat in motion, the system quietly shifts pressure along your spine.

Open the Massage menu and you will find eight modes: Hot Relaxing Back, Hot Relaxing Shoulder, Wave Massage, Activating Massage, Classic Massage, Relaxing Massage, Active Workout Backrest, and Active Workout Cushion.

For example, Hot Relaxing Back Massage combines warmth and pressure at the same point and at the same time. The warmth feels as if it is spreading from within the muscle layer.

Activating Massage pushes upward from the waist using air chambers. It is designed for that familiar long-drive feeling when your lower back starts sinking and your mind begins to feel dull.

Turn on massage when you get in, and the road feels much easier on your body.

L3: Restore Your Energy

Your body may have relaxed, but your mind is still tense.

Once you are sitting correctly and fatigue is reduced, there is still another layer: energy.

A 20-day drive does not only consume physical strength. It drains mental energy too.

Can that energy be restored?

The third layer of the Mercedes-Benz solution is to engage multiple senses at the same time, helping the nervous system relax and recover.

Open the fourth main menu on the screen: ENERGIZING COMFORT.

There are 10 modes in total:

Five recovery modes: Refresh, Joy, Vitality, Warmth, and Well-Being.

Three nature-inspired scenes: Forest Glade, Sounds of the Sea, and Summer Rain.

Two relaxation training categories: shoulder and neck relaxation, muscle relaxation, balance training, plus short relaxation exercises for the head, shoulders, upper body, and lower back.

With one tap, six systems work together: climate control, audio, dynamic seats, massage, ambient lighting, and fragrance. Temperature, sound, touch, vision, and scent are activated at the same time, helping the body relax and recover energy.

For example, when you stop at a service area at night, you can turn on Sounds of the Sea:

Under a deep blue sky, waves reach your feet, seabirds call beside your ears, and the scent of the sea drifts in softly. You settle into the cool, calm atmosphere and rest more deeply.
